REFA Executive Conference 2024
Last week, Largo had the privilege of hosting the Real Estate Finance Association’s (REFA) annual Executive Conference, where we gathered with some of the industry’s leading lenders to further our shared commitment to providing our borrowers with the best financing solutions available. Over the course of three days, we engaged in invaluable networking, panel discussions, and open dialogues. Lenders and REFA members alike offered critical insights into current lending programs, deal appetites, market trends, innovative loan structures, and fresh strategies for generating new business.
The event featured top lenders, including Life Co., DUS (Fannie Mae / Freddie Mac / HUD), CMBS, and C-PACE, each highlighting their active loan portfolios and the programs driving the most success in today’s market. One of our Life Co. partners also shared exciting news about their merger with a $140 billion private equity firm, a joint venture that will strengthen their already aggressive lending program and expand their capacity to originate new loans.
A key takeaway from the conference was the significant value lenders place on their correspondent lending relationships—such as the one they maintain with Largo. Many of the lenders emphasized the importance of working through a correspondent lender to secure financing, or at least strongly prefer doing so, as it ensures a more professional and seamless transaction. During a panel discussion, lenders revealed that on average, 98% of their business is conducted through mortgage bankers, underscoring the vital role we play in facilitating these deals. The appreciation for the quality business produced by REFA members was expressed repeatedly throughout the event.
Though the week was filled with non-stop activity, one thing remains clear: the bonds between Largo, our fellow REFA members, and our lenders are exceptionally strong. Over the years, we’ve learned that the key to best serving our borrowers lies in cultivating close, trusted relationships with our lending partners. Thankfully, we’re fortunate to work with lenders who not only excel professionally but whom we are proud to call friends.
